Description
This Continental Trailways Silver Eagle bus has been completely restored. It was originally assigned to the Central Division of Trailways and used in Kansas City, Mo., and Wichita, Ks. I spent a lot of miles driving this bus and others just like in my 10 years with Trailways. This bus and others of this generation had no power steering, a manual 4 speed unsynchronized transmission, and a Detroit 318 Diesel pusher engine. These buses where 40 ft. long, a height clearance of 11’ 3” and had air over hydraulic suspensions. They also had vacuum operated windshield wipers. The difference between this Silver Eagle and the Golden Eagle was that the Golden Eagle had gold trim instead of the Silver trim on the outside and a galley in the back for the hostess. Plus the Golden Eagle Buses hostesses would serve drinks, food and provide pillows for the passengers. All of the Eagle Buses had a small restroom located at the rear of the bus. Most of the Trailways Buses had either 42 or 46 seats. The spare tire was mounted behind the front bumper. It had a 100 gallon fuel tank. The best fuel mileage I could ever get was 8mpg. Some of my best memories are of driving for Trailways.
